Cosmetic Bonding and Veneers

When imperfections keep our teeth from looking their best, cosmetic bonding or veneers may be the answer. At Advanced Dental Care, we use bonding and veneers to solve a range of imperfections, from severe tooth discoloration to uneven and chipped teeth. While dental bonding and veneers have the same overall purpose—to cover the front of a tooth—there are several important differences between the two methods.

Cosmetic Bonding

Bonding involves using a special composite resin to mask imperfections in teeth. When we perform a bonding treatment, our experienced dentists will apply the resin over the teeth to even out any imperfections as it attaches to the tooth and hardens. Because the resin does not typically cover the entire front of a treated tooth, cosmetic bonding is generally faster and less expensive than receiving cosmetic veneers. Therefore, it can be a good choice for minor imperfections in teeth.

Veneers

Unlike bonding, a veneer is a thin, porcelain shell designed to cover the entire front of a tooth, much like an artificial fingernail. Veneers are custom-made to fit your teeth, and are resistant to staining from food and beverages. Because we have veneers custom-made for you, however, the whole process can take more than one visit. Nevertheless, veneers are a particularly good choice when you wish to cover significant staining or minor imperfections. At Advanced Dental Care, we are experienced at measuring, fitting, and applying veneers so you can show off a bright, natural-looking smile.

Maintaining Your New Smile

It’s important to note that neither veneers nor bonding are as strong as your normal teeth, so you should avoid activities such as chewing ice or biting your nails. However, veneers and bonding both allow you to brush and floss normally. If they are well-maintained, bonding can last between two and five years, while veneers from Advanced Dental Care can last 15 years or more, providing you thousands of happy smiles during that time.
