Fillings and Restorations

The goal of any dental plan is to avoid cavities and decay. However, when a cavity forms, it’s vital to fill it as soon as possible in order to help save the tooth. At Advanced Dental Care, we use the most effective methods to fill damaged teeth and ensure their long-term health.

Damage and Restoration

Bacteria that live in all of our mouths feed on food particles and liquids that we eat. Bacteria then secrete acid as a waste product that can lead to decay. As the condition becomes more serious the decay can break through a tooth’s enamel, causing a cavity. This renders your tooth even more vulnerable to further decay and, left untreated, can endanger the entire tooth. In order to help restore the tooth and protect the vulnerable area caused by the cavity, we use fillings.

Our process of filling cavities is simple: we first completely numb the area so that you won’t feel any pain during the procedure. Then we drill and clean out any existing decay in the affected tooth. Finally we insert the filling that will protect your tooth from any further damage.

At Advanced Dental Care, our experienced staff uses a variety of safe dental fillings to meet your needs:

White Fillings

Sometimes called tooth-colored fillings, white fillings are made of a special resin that can almost identically match the color of your teeth. As a result, white fillings are hard to detect, and are particularly suited for keeping all your teeth looking natural. Additionally, because the composite mixture is easier to place than other types of fillings, white restorations are a good choice for both large and small cavities. Simply put, they are the best choice for keeping your smile pearly white.

Silver Fillings

Also called amalgam fillings, silver-colored fillings are made from a mixture of silver and other metals. While they don’t match your tooth’s color, they are typically the least expensive filling type. They can be a good choice in the right instance.

Gold Fillings

As the name implies, gold fillings use a gold alloy and, like silver fillings, are quite durable. Although they are more expensive than their silver amalgam counterparts, gold restorations will not tarnish over time and some people prefer the look of gold to silver-colored fillings. Because gold fillings are made from a cast, it typically requires two trips to receive a gold filling: one trip to make an impression from which the gold filling will be made, and a second trip to place the filling.

Each restoration material has its advantages. However, at Advanced Dental Care we will discuss your options with you and help you make the best choice, whether you’re looking for the best cosmetic appearance or the most durable or cost-effective solution.
